Ordinary Haunting | Week 01
I started Ordinary Haunting on July 21st, 2026.
I had been looking for a reason to get up every morning; some time that belonged to only me in the midst of the business of life. I considered what I wished I had more time for, and the answer was simple:
Photography.
I've always been interested in photography, a curiosity, in a sense. Over the past, I have had many point and shoot cameras, but honestly never realized - or even gave it much thought - how complicated photography really was.
Like, you turn on the camera, you point it at a subject, and you press the shutter. Right?
Wrong.
There is so much more that goes into producing a good image.
For my birthday in 2021, after a bit of clueless research, I bought myself a "real" camera. A Canon EOS Rebel T7i. I had no idea then what this camera would do for me.
It took very little time to realize that reading, watching, learning about photography and techniques, sort of pushed a button in my brain.
Calm.
As a person who has suffered significant depression and anxiety throughout my lifetime, this was more than welcome.
Then I started actually going out and making photographs, and the brain buttons expanded.
Focused.
Peaceful.
Yet I just didn't make the time for photography that it deserved. I would take my camera when it made sense, planned outings and walks with my camera, threw those dates on the calendar where they fit in.
But that wasn't enough. As time went on, I realized that photography had far more to offer me than simply a convenient distraction. Instead, it actually gave me reason.
When you have something you love, you don't just accept time for it, you make time for it.
Photography rapidly became an obsession for me.
Will Ordinary Haunting last forever?
Maybe not.
Will I learn from it?
Absolutely.
Week One was a challenge of the alarm clock type.
Five a.m. is ridiculous.
And the first morning, ok, all of the mornings, really suck.
But they get easier.
A little.
Week One, days 1-7, consist of July 21st, 2026 through July 27th, 2026.
And these are my favorite photos.

What stood out to me in Week One?
I love the darkness, artificial lighting, rain, reflections, and sun rays.
I didn't know it yet, but I was already starting to look for the things that would eventually become Ordinary Haunting.
