San Xavier del Bac Mission, the White Dove of the Desert, is located in Tucson, Arizona.

You see, April in Arizona was a bit warm. I visited my beloved Saguaro in the morning and returned to Saguaro later that evening. In between, I drove to The San Xavier District of the Tohono O’odham reservation to see this monumental Catholic - I'm not particularly religious, but this was absolutely a - Holy Place.

I'm a believer.

Prior to this trip I had looked at pictures of San Xavier del Bac Mission and of course, I looked at the photographs that I took. There is not a photo in existence that depicts this breathtaking (magnificent, stunning, exquisite) cathedral in it's full radiance.

And the inside. This ceiling!

Love the pics! Is it still an active church, or strictly a landmark now?

It is entirely active, open every day. There were parishioners along with tourists and "Quiet, Please" signs everywhere that it's an active church. There's also a little brick and mortar room separate from the church that is FULL of lit candles (the Mortuary Chapel).

The heat coming out of that little room is intense.
